French Decoy Duck, beautifully hand carved & painted out of a palm frond.
The decoy duck was used as a hunting tool, placed in a pond or lake, passing water fowl such as duck & geese would be tricked into thinking it was a safe place to land, this allowed the hunter a better range to capture the bird. The practice of using decoys in hunting goes back many centuries.
